Wellbeing Through Cooking: Global Insights Into Cooking Enjoyment and Eating Together

Gallup and the Ajinomoto Group — a leading global food company dedicated to promoting healthy living through its motto "Eat Well, Live Well” — collaborated to understand the role of cooking and communal eating in people's lives globally. Survey questions were fielded in over 140 countries as part of the 2022 Gallup World Poll, which annually asks people around the world about a wide range of topics, including perceptions of their current and future lives as a measure of wellbeing.

Through the Ajinomoto Group survey module, the first global measurement of cooking enjoyment, researchers explored the number of people who enjoy cooking, highlighting differences across regions and demographics. The study found that enjoyment of cooking and regular communal dining with familiar people positively impacts subjective wellbeing and life evaluations.
